International Students in Canada

Canada has become a favored destination for international students, and the numbers clearly illustrate why. By the end of 2022, Canada had hosted more than 807,700 international students at all education levels. What’s particularly intriguing is the diversity of countries these students originate from. India leads the way at 40%, followed by China at 12%, the Philippines at 4%, and France, Iran, and Nigeria, each contributing 3%. The growth is indeed remarkable, marked by a substantial 31% increase in international student numbers from 2021 to 2022 alone. By the close of 2022, Canada had experienced a striking 43% growth over the past five years and an astonishing 170% increase over the last decade.

When it comes to the provinces within Canada, Ontario stands out as the primary choice, attracting approximately 51% of new international students in the last year. British Columbia follows closely behind, hosting 20% of international students, while Quebec and Alberta each welcome 12% and 5%, respectively.

Why should I study in Canada?

So, why do international students find Canada so appealing? Firstly, Canada’s reputation as a safe and stable country is a significant factor. Secondly, the high-quality education system, known for its excellence and diversity, is a major draw. Lastly, Canada’s inclusive and tolerant society plays a pivotal role in the decision-making process.

Furthermore, international students are looking toward the future while in Canada. An impressive 72.5% of them plan to apply for a post-graduate work permit, which allows them to gain valuable work experience. Additionally, 60% of these students aspire to make Canada their permanent home, highlighting the country’s attractiveness as a place not only for studying but also for building a promising future. With its welcoming environment, outstanding education system, and diverse opportunities, Canada’s appeal to international students has never been stronger.
