Prince Edward Island (PEI) is Canada’s smallest province, consisting of the island itself and several surrounding isles.
PEI is referred to as “the cradle of Canada.” The “Charlottetown conference” — which resulted in the formation of the country — took place on Prince Edward Island in 1864. Not only is the island province renowned for its lush farmland and stunning coastlines, but it also has a burgeoning economy based on agriculture, tourism, and fishing.

OVERVIEW OF THE PEI PNP

The PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) was established in 2001 to help meet the province’s economic and labour market needs.

The PEI PNP seeks skilled, experienced, and educated immigrants who are likely to settle on the island. The province is now welcoming more immigrants thanks to the PNP.

Since 2015, the province has welcomed about 2,000 new immigrants annually, and this figure is anticipated to rise. Previously, the province would only accept about 200 newcomers every year.

Since the PNP in 2001 and the Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) in 2017, the province has seen increased immigration. Under the AIP, Atlantic provinces firms can engage foreign workers to fill vacancies not filled locally. The Atlantic provinces include NB, NL, NS, and PEI.

PEI PNP Express Entry is the only improved category. It also has two main categories: labour and business impact.

The PEI PNP gives prospective newcomers the chance to receive a provincial nomination through one of its many immigration streams, which may fast-track their path to Canadian permanent residence. The province operates several immigration streams divided into three categories:

PEI Express Entry

PEI Express Entry may be available to prospective immigrants who are in the federal Express Entry pool and have expressed an interest in living and working on Prince Edward Island. Candidates must be eligible for one of the federal economic immigration categories, however, Express Entry PNP will evaluate those candidates whose skills and experience meet the province’s actual labour needs.

PEI Labour Impact

Foreign workers and fresh graduates are encouraged to apply for provincial nomination through one of the Labour Impact streams in Prince Edward Island. These programmes enable persons who have been hired by a PEI employer to pursue an accelerated path to permanent residency if they qualify for the PEI PNP.

• SKILLED WORKERS IN PEI; This stream is for workers who have been recognized or engaged by an employer in Prince Edward Island. To apply for this stream, you must either be employed on Prince Edward Island or have a job offer from a Prince Edward Island firm. Applicants must be employed in a skilled profession, have appropriate experience, and hold a post-secondary degree or diploma.
• CRITICAL WORKER; This category is for employees who have been hired by a PEI employer and whose employer wishes to sponsor them for permanent residence. Applicants must be employed in a semi-skilled or unskilled position.
• INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE; This stream is for recent graduates of approved institutions and colleges in Prince Edward Island. You must have been hired previously by a PEI employer. Applicants who are eligible will work in a skilled profession related to their course of study.

PEI Business Impact

The Category of Business Impact has a single stream: the Work Permit Stream.

• WORK PERMIT STREAM; This stream is for anyone interested in investing in a PEI business. They will be expected to begin working and learning about the firm while on a work permit in Canada. Following that, they may apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residency in Prince Edward Island.
